The four teams representing Ghana in this month’s Africa Hockey Championship, have a tough task of winning Ghana’s first title in the competition.
The tournament will be held here in Accra and so far Exchequers, who once won silver, have the best record by a Ghanaian team.
Teams from highly rated South Africa, Egypt, Kenya and Nigeria will vie for honours in the two-week tournament.
Fire Service and Reformers of Prisons Service will represent Ghana in the women’s division while Golden Sticks of Ghana Commercial Bank and Trustees of SSNIT play for the men.
Edmund Ayertey, Coach for Trustees who are previous bronze medalists in the competition, is confident his charges can stand up to the big teams.
He said the team had upped their training and would cope with stiff opposition.
