The Asokwa Police in Kumasi have arrested a man on suspicion of killing his girlfriend in a hotel room for rituals. Rashid Awudu was alleged to have killed his girlfriend, believed to be about 20 years old, in a room at the Silver Ring Guest House at Asokwa.
The shocking incident occurred on Monday around 3:45pm, whilst the two lovebirds were alone in their room.
Other lodgers at the guesthouse heard strange noises coming from the room of the two lovers, which made them suspect foul play. They thus broke into the room, only to find the lady, whose name is not known, lying dead on the bed, with the suspect preparing to escape.
Human blood in a polythene bag was found in the room, fuelling suspicions that the suspect might have drained the blood of the deceased for rituals. A police source at Asokwa, who confirmed the story to DAILY GUIDE, said Awudu is in police custody assisting in investigations.
He noted that the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), awaiting autopsy. Narrating the incident, the police officer, who spoke on anonymity, said the two lovers spent the night in the guesthouse the previous night.
The lovers were seen walking happily together on Monday morning as they left the guesthouse to town. The police officer said it therefore came as a big surprise to the staff and lodgers at the guesthouse when they found out that the suspect had killed his girlfriend. He noted that the staff of the guesthouse held the suspect in their custody until they called in the police.
