A 21 year old mother has been nabbed by the police for stabbing two sisters at Osu in Accra, killing one instantly.Georgina Lartey committed the act on Tuesday October 26, 2010, around 4:30 pm, after engaging in a fierce fight with the victims two days earlier.
The suspect, according to information gathered by Daily Guide, got infuriated after the fight and threatened to deal with the two sisters drastically.“She then laid a trap for the two sisters at a spot near Osu Cemetery on Tuesday evening and when the two sisters approached the spot, she pounced on them and stabbed them with a kitchen knife, killing one instantly.”
The deceased, Princess Aloriga, 17, who died on the spot, was the mother of a three month old baby boy. The surviving victim, Belinda Aloriga, who is a bosom friend of the suspect, is responding to treatment at the Ridge Hospital.
Narrating the incident to Daily Guide, the Accra Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Stephen Adufati, indicated that Georgina was arrested by the Osu Police after attempting to escape.Georgina, the paper learnt, also has a three year old baby girl.He stated that Belinda and Georgina had engaged in a fight over some money the former gave the suspect two weeks ago.“Georgina refused to pay the money back, so Belinda confronted her, but is turned into a fierce fight last Saturday after the victim and the deceased had gone to the suspect’s house to demand the money.”
The Regional Crime Officer said last Tuesday around 4:30 pm, the suspect, after seeing the two sisters, headed toward the Osu Cemetery area to escort a friend, took a knife and laid ambush at a spot named ‘Ghost Town” and when the duo approached, she stabbed each of them, killing the innocent nursing mother instantly. “The intestines of the nursing mother gushed out so she died on the spot, but the main victim, Belinda Aloriga, was inflicted on the head, back and hands.”
Upon interrogation, Georgina Lartey admitted to the offence.
He said the suspect would be remanded into custody whilst investigations continue.
In an interview with Daily Guide, the suspect, Georgina Lartey, revealed that Belinda had accused her of snatching the boyfriend, a certain Asamoah, over the phone. She disclosed that after the exchange of words over the phone, Belinda called her again to demand the GH¢10 she borrowed from her two weeks ago. “I asked her to come for the money Saturday and when she got to my house that morning, she engaged me in another fight over the issue, together with her sister, threatening to deal with me”.
The suspect claimed that as she felt threatened, she armed herself with the weapon to meet the two sisters.
“The two engaged me in a fight and in a rage, I stabbed the junior sister, killing her.” The surviving victim, Belinda Aloriga, also in an interview said, “I introduced my boyfriend to my friend Georgina two weeks ago, and while I was away, she secretly took the phone number of my boy without my knowledge, called him on phone and invited him out. And so when I heard about it I confronted her.”
Belinda said that she then demanded the GH¢10 she gave Georgina two weeks ago, and so the suspect invited her over for the money last Saturday in her house.“A fight ensued when the mother of the suspect tried to find out the cause of our quarrel,” she added.
She noted that on Tuesday October 26, 2010, as she went to see a friend off together with the junior sister, the suspected laid ambush, pounced on and stabbed them with a knife.“I was carrying my junior sister’s child so the child fell from my back and before I realized it, my sister was lying on the floor in a pool of blood, dead. I had multiple knife wounds on my head, hand and back,” Belinda added.
