Child’s Rights Activist, Bright Appiah has lauded the incarceration of the Head Pastor of Jesus Blood Prophetic Ministry, Nana Kwesi Yirenkyi, A.K.A ‘Jesus One Touch’ to 10 years imprisonment for defilement and incest. Mr. Appiah who is the Executive Director of Child’s Rights International believes the Court’s decision will serve as a deterrent to others in the heinous crime. The Trial Judge Mrs. Georgian Mensah-Datsa found the Pastor guilty for sexually abusing his ten year old daughter. Jesus One Touch was conveyed back to the Nsawam Prison to start serving his term. Mr. Bright Appiah told Citi News there is now the victim’s rehabilitation to enable her continue her education. “For me the law has taken its course and it will serve as a deterrent for others who want to commit these offences. But I hope the interest of the child will also be looked at in a holistic manner so that we can look at how best we can define protection for children when such things occur” he said. The Lawyers of the convict maintain their client is innocent and have expressed their dissatisfaction about the ruling. They say they will appeal against the ruling. Meanwhile a Member of the Defense Team, Paul Owusu who earlier described the Judge’s decision as unfair, has apologised for his comments. Mr. Owusu had suggested that the judgement was characterised by emotions particularly because the Judge was a woman and the case revolved around a girl. Some Women’s Rights Activists condemned the statement describing it as an insult against female professionals. Mr. Owusu however told Citi News his comments were unfortunate. He said he may have made those outbursts as a result of the events that unfolded in the Court.
