New York, (United Nations),Moroccan Minister of Social Development, Family and Solidarity reiterated, here Tuesday, Morocco's "firm will" to pursue its action and step up efforts in favor of children,"I should like to reiterate Morocco's firm political will to pursue and redouble efforts and mobilize all means necessary to promote children's capacities and their rights," Mrs. Nouzha Skalli said before the UN General Assembly in a debate on the situation of children.
The minister cited, as part of the North African country's efforts in this respect the National Observatory for Children's Rights which aims to face problems and propose concrete solutions to promote all the rights stipulated by the convention on children's rights.
She also noted that the kingdom harmonized its legislative texts with the international conventions by introducing the notion of higher interest of children in those texts.
These reforms, she went on, also touched on the family, saying that the new Family Code laid the foundations of an equity and equality-based modern democratic society in which the family plays an important role in educating children in keeping with the international Declaration and the action plan "A World Fit for Children."
The national plan of action for children (PANE) for 2006-2015, the minister said, has a fourfold objective: promoting healthy lives; providing quality education; protecting children against abuse, violence and exploitation; and combating HIV/AIDS.
Several heads of state and government, together with 130 high-level delegations, including 40 ministers, are taking part in this extraordinary session on the theme “A World Fit for Children + 5” devoted to following up on the outcome of the Special Session on Children held five years ago.
