ISSM/SMSNA Sub-Saharan Africa Training Program in Oncosexology Website
Address
VirtualThe International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM), the Kenya Society for Hematology and Oncology (KESHO), and the Sexual Medicine Society of North America (SMSNA) are partnering to build on the educational programs on sexual medicine and sexual health, brought to Kenya and East Africa in 2019 and 2021, by offering a 9-month training program designed for clinicians in cancer care who wish to address sexual health with their cancer patients.
The ISSM/KESHO/SMSNA Sub-Saharan Africa Training Program in Oncosexology aims to equip multidisciplinary clinicians in cancer care with baseline skills to start conversations with patients and their partners about the impact of cancer on their sexuality and about rehabilitation. The goal of the program is to help individuals and couples coping with cancer restore the ability to have satisfying sexual lives. The program will be delivered by international faculty with expertise in sexual health and by African faculty with additional knowledge of cultural issues that impact sexual health.
Program Format
The program will consist of monthly 90-minute sessions, with didactic and case consultation components. Participants will have an opportunity to submit cases for discussion, based on the topic of any particular session.
Program objectives:
Educate participants about the impact of cancer treatments on sexual health of patients, partners and couples
Educate participants about sexual rehabilitation strategies after cancer treatment
Provide consultation on actual clinical cases
Encourage a robust discussion of cultural issues that influence patients’ and partners’ experience of sexual problems after cancer treatment and recovery of sexual intimacy
This program is designed for oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, physical therapists, and trainees located in Sub-Saharan Africa. Please note that slots to participate in this Program are limited. If you are not located in Sub-Saharan Africa, then your application will need to be vetted by the Program Committee.
