SELEBI-PHIKWE: Nico United have threatened to boycott a rescheduled fixture against Gaborone United (GU) this Saturday.
Majombolo say they have been unfairly treated by the Premier League Committee (PLC) in the decision to re-fixture the match.
The club threatens to move to the High Court for an order to have the fixture cancelled. It has written to the PLC secretary Setete Phuthego to protest the decision to make the play against GU this Saturday. The club spokesman, Eitlhomilwe Raditshego said the PLC should not have rescheduled the game before getting to the bottom of circumstances leading to its initial cancellation. "We are convinced that investigations should have been carried out to determine the genuineness of the grounds advanced by GU to have failed to honour the fixture," Raditshego said. The initial game in December was cancelled by the PLC because the then troubled GU could not raise a team. Raditshego said it was unfortunate that as an interested party, Nico was not kept abreast of developments.
He argued that his side was never informed of the decision to reschedule the game except through a list of fixtures sent to them by the PLC. "The communication is still yet to come. We have therefore been taken aback by seeing Nico United fixtured against Gaborone United without any communication between Nico United and the PLC," Raditshego said. Majombolo has threatened not to fulfil the weekend fixture against GU unless the PLC takes them on board as an interested party in the matter.
Raditshego said they will appeal to the Botswana Football Association (BFA) for redress. Nico has threatened that if they do not get sufficient explanations from both the PLC and the BFA, they will go to court. "Failure to get support from the PLC and BFA, Nico United will have no other option but to make an urgent application to the High Court praying that the game between Gaborone United and Nico United be cancelled until such time that proper consultation has been sufficiently done amongst all stakeholders," Nico wrote to the PLC. Majombolo wants the PLC to suspend the fixture to allow for communication among the parties concerned.
Raditshego said if the PLC's decision is allowed to prevail, it will set a bad precedent. "We have a lot of players out injured. If we were to ask for a postponement of our game on those grounds, will the PLC agree? If that happens, a bad precedent would have been set," he said. Raditshego accuses Phuthego of being dishonest and trying to please GU."His problem is that he is dishonest. He is now trying to please the other party at our expense," he said.
Phuthego said the PLC had sent a copy of their decision to both GU and Nico. He denied that he had gone on record saying the GU game would not be replayed. "I am a servant and I do not have powers to take a decision. I am only there to implement decisions that have been taken," Phuthego said.
