Muscles have an important role in our bodies! Muscles help you do lots of things, such as blink an eye, swallow, and digest your food. Muscles also help you breathe, lift an arm, take a step, and even have your heart beat so your blood can circulate.
If you did not have muscles you could not move. Muscles can make pulling forces. There are opposing teams of muscles that give you a full range of movement.
Your brain and your nervous system control muscles. Your body needs fuel and you get it from food that you eat. The muscles move thanks to tiny electrical pulses that travel along motor nerves. You have two teams of muscles in your body. Simplest joints have two movements and they are bending and straightening. One team pulls to bend and the other team pulls to straighten your joint. The smooth muscle is found in the walls of your stomach and in some of your blood vessels to help control the flow of blood around your body. Your cardiac muscle is found only in your heart. The cardiac muscle pushes out blood into your arteries. All muscles are organs.
