Upper West DFP Holds Regional Congress Website
The Upper West Regional branch of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), on Sunday held its maiden regional congress during which new executives were elected. The event was a forerunner to the DFP national delegates' congress scheduled for April 4 and April 5 this year. The new executives, elected unopposed, were Mr Kwame Mumuni, businessman, Chairman, Mr Alhassan Bin Iddrisu, first vice-Chairman while Alhaji Seidu Sumaila and Mr Mathew Bonye, an Educationist second vice-chairman and Regional Secretary respectively. The election, which was supervised by the Wa Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission, also elected Miss Lucy Lang-er treasurer, Mr Richard Batuure, regional youth organizer, Mr David Balooro regional Organizer and Miss Odila Mona, Women's Organizer. Mr Michael Kabumah, a Wa based Legal Practitioner, who is also in-charge of the Wa office of the Legal Aid Board swore the executives into office. Addressing the congress after the election, Mr Mumuni said the DFP was going into this year's election with the aim of winning the polls and not to play second fiddle to any of the so-called giant political parties. He said all the grass root structures that were necessary to ensure victory had been put in place and people were joining the party in droves from the other political parties. Mr Mumuni said the Party would fill parliamentary candidates in all the ten constituencies in the region. He said he was optimistic that if the current level of support for the party in the region was sustained, the DFP would win not less than five of the ten parliamentary seats in the region. Mr Mumuni called on supporters to be committed to the party to enable it win the elections.
