Peacefmonline.com can confirm that two Yutong Buses have crashed in a head-on collision on the dawn of Tuesday, January 11th, resulting in the tragic death of about 15 people.
The catastrophic incident is said to have occurred on a sharp curve between Akomadan and Edinkasu in the Offinso North Constituency. One of the buses with registration number GC 4818 Z, was said to be returning from Kumasi with 25 passengers on board, while the other bus with registration number GN2673-10 was on its way to Kumasi from Bolgatanga.
The impact of the explosive crash led to the roof of the smaller Yutong bus being ripped off.
Peacefm’s Reporter, Hackman Owusu Afriyie who visited the scene reports that 15 passengers have been confirmed death with over 42 passengers seriously injured in the accident which happened at about 2am on Tuesday. According to him, the driver of the Yutong Bus from Bolgatanga could not survive the tragic crash whiles his other colleague (driver of the Yutong bus from Kumasi) is said to have lost both legs in the accident.
The Akomadan District Police Commander ASP Gilbert Zuberviel told Peacefm’s reporter Hackman Owusu that 10 passengers said to be in critical condition have been rushed to the Komfo-Anokye Teaching Hospital while six have been treated and discharged. Four other passengers are reported missing.
One of the survivors of the accident told Kwame Sefa-Kayi in an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo that both drivers were cruising at such a top speed that when the two buses got to the sharp bend, it was impossible to avoid each other, thus the inevitable accident occurred.
He described the incident as horrible and terrifying.
Meanwhile, bodies of the unfortunate victims have been deposited at the Techiman and Akomadan mortuaries whiles survivors have been conveyed to the Techiman Government Hospital and Akomadan Hospital for medical attention.
