The Eastern Regional Minister Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has appealed to residents in flood prone areas to cooperate with officials in the evacuation exercise.
He said this when a team of officials including those of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), visited the Kwahu South District on Tuesday to access the situation in the area.
The Regional Minister fearing the worst disaster could befall the people if they were not re-located, had ordered the Kwahu South District NADMO Co-ordinator and the District Assembly to take immediate steps to re-settle the people. He assured them that relief items such as mattresses, blankets and second hand clothing would soon be provided to them while efforts the being made to get them tents.
In the recent rainfalls, many houses at Adawso in the Kwahu South District close to the Afram River had collapsed due to the flooding of the River.
In spite of the fact that water from the swollen river had also flooded some nearby houses, the inhabitants of the area were refusing to vacate their premises.
In one such instance, three compound houses belonging to Mr Daniel Kwanortey, a farmer, had collapsed but inhabitants in the nearby house had refused to leave their premises despite the fact that the receding waters are just a few metres away.
