Several passengers were injured Tuesday morning when a white 207 Benz bus overturned and landed on its back in an attempt by the driver to avoid ramming other vehicles.
The accident occurred at about 7am just across the Paloma Hotel at Silver Cup, on the Ring Road Central and left in its trail long, packed traffic jams on either side of the dual carriage.
DSP Agnes Caesar, Nima Divisional Police Commander who led a team of policemen to the scene, told myjoyonline.com she had been informed a number of the injured had been sent to the Police Hospital. The police were yet to ascertain the cause of the accident as they were yet to speak with the driver or anyone travelling on the bus with registration number AS 3047 Y, said to be travelling from the Kwame Nkrumah Circle to the Spintex Road in Accra.
An eye witness, Joshua Tetteh, said that just about 7am, the 207 bus that was joining the main Ring Road Central from the access road just in front of the Bus Stop restaurant, was apparently impeded by another trotro bus that had taken off suddenly after picking passengers at a stop at the end of the access.
He said he heard a sudden burst of screaming from the passengers in the 207 bus as the driver struggled with the steering and the car arced sharply and rolled over, hitting a light pole in the process. The injured and bleeding were carried to the hospital by good neighbourly drivers some of who witnessed the accident.
