Today marks the 25th anniversary of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II's enthronement as Asantehene, a significant milestone in his illustrious reign.
The Silver Jubilee celebration is scheduled for Akwasidaekese, June 12, at Dwabrem, Manhyia Palace, preceded by captivating fireworks witnessed by Otumfuo himself.
On April 26, 1999, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, then Barima Kwaku Duah, undertook the traditional oath ceremony, wielding the Busumuru sword, and assumed the name Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. He is the direct descendant of Osei Tutu I, the revered founder of the Asante Kingdom.
Born on May 6, 1950, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II received a robust upbringing steeped in Asante traditions under the guidance of his uncle, Oheneba Mensah Bonsu. He pursued his secondary education at Sefwi Wiawso Secondary School and Osei Kyeretwie Secondary School before embarking on studies in Accountancy at the Institute of Professional Studies, Legon, and later in the United Kingdom.
His ascension to the throne was met with resounding acclaim, owing to his natural charisma and leadership acumen. Since assuming office, he has prioritized peace and reconciliation, deftly resolving numerous disputes within the kingdom and beyond, while preserving the essence of tradition amidst a changing world.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has championed various initiatives aimed at fostering education and healthcare, including the establishment of the Otumfuo Education Fund and the Serwaa Ampem Aids Foundation. His unwavering dedication to the welfare of his people has garnered international recognition, as evidenced by the honorary doctorate degrees conferred upon him by esteemed universities.
Furthermore, he has instituted a Health Fund to address prevalent health challenges in Ghana, underscoring his commitment to enhancing the quality of life for his subjects.
