Members of Offinso Municipal Assembly on Tuesday rejected Mr Freddie Kwaku Amponsah, nominated as Municipal Chief Executive.
Mr Amponsah, Ashanti Regional Manager of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) polled 24 votes as against 13 of the votes cast and failed to obtain two-thirds of the required votes of 37.
Mr Laurence Sarpong, First Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of Electoral Commission, who supervised the election said although Mr Amponsah had more than 50 per cent of the votes cast he could not get the two-thirds required.
He said “The law stipulates that after 10 days the assembly could meet to decide at another election”.
Mr Benjamin Asonaba-Dapaah, Ashanti Regional representative on the Council of State, regretted that an incidence that happened at the assembly seven years ago had occurred.
He was optimistic that things would change after the members had reflected on the issue.
Mr Osei Assibey Antwi, Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, expressed appreciation to the members for the outcome and efforts by the assembly to promote and improve education and complete about 80 per cent of its on-going development projects.
