NPP Chairman On Nana Addo’s Running Mate Website
The New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a statement, signed by its National Chairman, Mr. Peter Mac Manu, on the issue of a Vice Presidential nominee for its flag bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo. The statement said the party and its flag bearer do not consider naming a running mate at this stage. According to the statement, what was of immediate importance to the party was to allow the flag bearer time to carefully and systematically go through the necessary consultations, reviews and other relevant activities that will enable him to select a suitable running mate who will be approved by the party. The NPP held its congress to select a flag bearer for the 2008 general elections on December 22 last year, amidst concerns about the large number of aspirants vying for the slot. In all 16 aspirants contested for the flag bearership of the party which Nana Akufo-Addo won. After the congress, there have been widespread speculations regarding the running mate of Nana Akufo-Addo. Some of the names being put up by the media as among those being considered for nomination are the Minister of Women and Children’s Affairs, Hajia Alima Mahama, and the Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Saddique. The statement, therefore, appealed to its members, supporters and well-wishers to desist from attempting to presssurise the Party to nominate certain persons as its running mate, saying the leadership was working on nominating a person who will merit that status and who will be acceptable to voters of all political, ethnic, gender, geographic and other persuasions. It said there were clear signs that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) continues to sit close to the heart of the overwhelming majority of Ghanaians.
