MPs Visit Soldier Bar Website
The Parliamentary caucus on Population on Friday, February 29, 2008 visited the popular Soldier Bar at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra. The place has become notorious for child prostitution. A few weeks ago investigations by journalists led to a swoop by the police who arrested scores of prostitutes some of them children. The visit of the Members of Parliament was to afford them the opportunity to see at first hand the conditions under which the girls plied their trade. Speaking to Joy News’ Araba Koomson, a member of the caucus, Mrs Theresa Amerley Tagoe, said the visit was also to enable the caucus to appropriately advise the government on population issues. She expressed regret at the unhygienic nature of the place and wondered why human beings should patronise such a place. “The place was so filthy and smelly”, she added. She said the MPs could not find the operators of the place. Members however spoke to a number of young people who were taking it easy at the brothel.
