A 29-year-old marketing officer, Mark Affum, has been remanded into prison custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court for allegedly duplicating postage stamps of the Ghana Post Company (GPC). He denied the offence and would re-appear on February 11.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Doris Amewu told the court presided over by Mr Justice D.W.P. Amedior that some officials from the GPC detected that postage stamps on some letters were fake. They alerted the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) and investigations led to the arrest of Affum who works with a printing company.
The prosecution said a quantity of the counterfeit stamps, were later retrieved from his residence at Bebre near Ejisu, as well as a scanner with a colour printer. During interrogation, he admitted the crime and said he had posted a number of letters with the fake stamps.
