Mohammed Abass, the 31-year-old articulator driver who ran over some school children at Kwesimintim re-appeared in court on Wednesday and was remanded.
His lawyer, Mr Kofi Diaba, pleaded that the accused should be granted bail since his charges of careless and inconsiderate driving as well as negligently causing harm were bailable offences but the judge refused.
His plea was not taken and he is to re-appear on February 7.Assistant Superintendent of Police Albert Deletsa told the court that the accused could not be granted bail due to the death of Melissa Donkor. This brings to three the number of children who died in the accident.
He said there would be a change in the provisional charges levelled against the accused while his charge sheet is also being forwarded to the Attorney General’s Office for advice. Mr Deletsa said the accused had to be kept in custody for his safety.
