Kwesi Huang, Managing Director of Tianshi Ghana Limited, who allegedly imported devices meant to enlarge male organs and breasts, was on Wednesday remanded into police custody by a Circuit Court in Accra.
Charged for distributing unregistered product without registering it with the Food and Drugs Board (FDB), the court did not take Huang’s plea. He is to reappear on January 17. The case as presented by Police Superintendent Abichab Boye before the trial judge, Ms Adwoa Coleman, is that Huang’s company at East Legon in Accra deals in food supplement and medical devices.
Superintendent Boye said sometime last year, management of the FDB had information that Tianshi Ghana Limited had imported some devices that enlarged male organs, also known as Male Cupping Kit, and Female Cupping kit that was also used in enlarging female breasts.
On January 5, this year, personnel of the FDB visited the company where 51 pieces of various sizes of Women and Male Cupping Kits (Large, medium and small) were found.
The prosecution said FDB officers were told that more of the devices were in the company’s warehouse on the Spintex Road but the keys to the warehouse were with the accused, who had then travelled to China. A report was therefore made to the Police.
On January 11, Huang reported at the FDB offices where he was handed over to the Police for further investigations. He said he had been invited by the FDB Chief Executive Officer on September 2, last year over the devices.
According to Huang, he was slapped with a GH¢20,000 fine for importing the devices. He said he had paid the fine and had since issued circulars to his distributors to stop distributing the devices. A copy of the circular, Huang said, had been given to the FDB.
