Failure by Mamprusi to pay royalties to Gonjas has led to minor skirmishes in parts of the Northern Region.
Joy News reports the Gonjas perceive the Mamprusis residing in Sokora and Nuabini villages in the West Gonja and West Mamprusi district of the Northern Region as settlers and make yearly demands in royalties.
But the Mamprusis, Shaibu explains, resisted any payments in royalties this year culminating in minor skirmishes. In the process, a room filled with food stuffs was razed down, in a compound house in Nuabini, angering the Mamprusis owners.
Regional Police Commander DCOP Amaning confirmed the skirmishes but said no serious fatality has been recorded. Police personnel have thus been deployed to restore order in the area.
