Fire on Thursday February 3, gutted parts of the University of Ghana Medical School Students’ Hostel at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. Property running into hundreds of Ghana Cedis was completely destroyed. The immediate cause of the fire is unknown, but fire officers have been to the scene to extinguish the fire. Fire fighters say there were no casualties but two rooms were burnt. The Head of Communications at the Ghana National Fire Service, Sam Sowah told Citi News the service was informed of the incident at exactly 9:41 am. He said when firemen arrived at the scene at about 9:51am, two rooms had caught fire with items such as text books, computers and personal belongings burnt. He said the fire was finally extinguished at 10:33am. “We couldn’t establish the immediate cause. But speaking to some of the victims, they told us the place was experiencing some sort of power fluctuations” he said.
