An ex-convict, Eric Tetteh, 20, has been sentenced to another five-year prison term by a Tarkwa Circuit Court for stealing 11,000 Ghana cedis from a cocoa buying agent at Prestea.
The suspect, who has already served a five-year jail term at the Sunyani Prisons for stealing, pleaded guilty. Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, prosecuting, told the court that soon after the accused was released from prison, he visited his grandfather, Mallam Obu at Prestea and stayed over for a week.
He said the complainant, Matthew Tetteh, who lived in the same house with Mallam Obu, left home for his farm on Feb. 1 only to return to find that 11,000 Ghana cedis meant for the purchase of cocoa beans had been stolen.
The prosecutor said the suspect passed through the ceiling of the room, stole the money and left immediately to a secret location in Koforidua. When the suspect was arrested an amount of 640 Ghana cedis was found on him, he said.
