Court Convicts Recalcitrant Driver Website
Ishmael Eshun, a truck driver who refused to stop at a police check-point at Assin-Foso and rammed the vehicle through the metal barrier, injuring a policeman was on Wednesday fined GH¢840 by a district magistrate’s court at Assin-Foso. Eshun, who pleaded guilty with explanation, to dangerous driving, failing to stop and carrying excess number of passengers, said he refused to stop because he thought he was being chased by armed robbers. He will go to jail for nine months if he fails to pay the fine. The prosecution had told the court, presided over by Mr Joseph Blay that on January 12, 2008 at about 1830 hours, Eshun, who was driving a Man Diesel truck, loaded with goods and nine passengers, was travelling from Kumasi to Takoradi. The court heard that when he got to the check-point at Assin-Foso, Eshun ignored signals to stop and crashed into the metal barrier, which hit and injured one of the policemen on duty. The prosecution said the police chased Eshun but he refused to stop until he was arrested at a check-point at Moree.
