Gyankoma Akufo Addo, one of the daughters of NPP flag bearer, Nana Akufo Addo, was busted last month driving under the influence of alcohol in the company of some Nigeria friends.
Gyankoma, a.k.a. Fummy, driving under a heavy influence of alcohol, nearly snuffed the life out of t he Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BOG), Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur when on Saturday, 21st August 2010 at about 5:30 am, along the Switch back Road in Accra, she ran the Toyota Land Cruiser with registration into the Mercedes Benz salon car with registration number GT2363-10 in which the BOG boss was.
Apparently, the 32 year-old-lady had had a good night out with her friends and were all returning home when the incident happened.
Prosecuting, inspector Emmanuel Ankomah told the Accra District Court trying Fummy that, that fateful morning, upon reaching a spot linking the Liberation road, she failed to observe traffic from her left and as a result smashed her vehicle into the Mercedes Benz in which the BOG boss was, a situation which resulted in the two cars being badly damaged.
The NPP flag bearer’s daughter, who was using a Driver’s B license number AKUF031278-02-01 pleaded guilty to two counts of careless and inconsiderate driving and driving under the influence of alcohol when she was arraigned before an Accra District Motor Court. Last Tuesday, the court found her guilty on her own pleas and sentenced her to a fine of GH¢480.00 a fine many consider very lenient and raises eyebrows. Checks revealed that she has paid the fine.
Daily Post sources at the Cantonment Police station say nobody was injured during the accident. Independent investigations by the Daily post newspaper revealed that after the police arrived at the scene of the accident, they found the NPP flag bearer’s daughter reeking with alcohol. They therefore took her to the Motor Traffic & Transport Unit of the Nima Divisional Police where she went through a test to ascertain the level of alcohol in her system. The examination revealed that she had exceeded the driving limit, testing 0.66 percent on the breathalyzer, far above the legally allowed limit of 0.08 percent.
Fummy is a twin product of the relationship Akufo-Addo had with a Nigerian woman though he did not formally marry her.
