A life hangs in the balance...quite literally.
A car somehow ended up dangling from the side of an Atlanta parking lot, its driver unconscious at the wheel.
One slip and death waits on the sidewalk almost a hundred feet below.
INSIDE EDITION spoke with a fireman who assisted in the daring rescue. He says, "The only thing that held it to the side of the building (was) two cables that run along the edges to help prevent cars going over."
A rescuer reaches out and takes the driver's pulse to make sure he's still alive.
Working upside down, a firefighter lowered from a floor above tries in vain to get the passenger door open.
In the end, smashing the window is the only way rescuers can get into the car.
With a crowd watching every move, the fireman knocks all the jagged pieces of glass away, and then lowers himself in through the passenger-side window.
When asked just how dangerous the rescue was for he and his fellow firemen he says, "There was a very, very high probability that, the car could have dislodged and fallen."
Once he's inside, the firefighter gives anxious colleagues the thumbs-up.
Powerful beams provide light to the rescuer, as another fireman inches up the ladder, careful not to nudge the precariously balanced car.
Finally, rescuers get a harness around the now conscious driver and lift him out to safety. He was rushed to a local hospital and later charged with DUI.
Now the heroic and courageous fire department is left with indelible memories of a one-of-a-kind rescue. "It looks like something Hollywood would have put together for one of their high-drama movies."
