70-year Old Man Appeals To IGP For Justice Website
A 70-year old man from Lingbin in the Tolon Kumbungu district in the Northern Region has appealed to the IGP to intervene for justice for his granddaughter. He is asking the Inspector-General of Police to prevail upon the police in Tamale to arrest a Fulani man who allegedly defiled his ten-year-old granddaughter. The suspect named only as Amidu allegedly defiled Ramatu Fseini on her way to the farm. The old man, Fuseini Dokurugu claims the policemen failed to arrest the suspect citing logistical constraints. Joy News’ Mahama Shaibu said Ramatu’s underwear which according to the old man was stained with blood was presented to the police but they failed to arrest the suspect. He said they however took the exhibit and told Dokurugu to arrest Amidu and hand him over to them for investigation. Shaibu says this is not the first time the police in Tamale have given such an excuse for failing to arrest a suspect. According to him, last year when a 70-year old woman accused of witchcraft was allegedly chained and tortured, the police cited logistical constraints for their failure to act. And when a vehicle was volunteered for the police to arrest the perpetrator of the crime, some residents vandalised it. The Joy FM Northern regional correspondent said residents of Tamale have persistently complained of being asked by the police to provide means for suspects to be arrested.
