Veteran Actress Grace Omaboe has said it is very difficult to win parliamentary primaries in the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) if a contestant doesn’t have enough money.
The failed Birim North parliamentary aspirant who ditched the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to join the New Patriotic Party ahead of the 2008 general election, told TV3’s New Day programme hosted by Ama K Abebrese on Friday that her inability to dish out money and gifts to delegates during the election, diminished her chances of winning the primaries in 2008.
Maame Dokono, as the Actress and Philanthropist is popularly known, said she was told she needed as much as Ghc3 million at the time to have sorted out delegates to shore up her chances.
Her first attempt at becoming a Parliamentary candidate for the Constituency was in 2000 when she contested on the ticket of the NDC. She attributed her first failure to the NPP’s popularity in the Eastern region.
She made a return in 2008 on the ticket of the NPP but failed again. The veteran actress said she will soon make a comeback onto the movie and TV industry.
