The executive and the entire student wing of the New Patriotic Party, University of Ghana-Legon write to condemn and also register our displeasure about the continual celebration of 31st December by some few irresponsible Ghanaians.
31st December 1981, was a dark day in the Ghanaian history where a few greedy individuals perpetrated an evil and treasonable act against the state by overthrowing a constitutionally elected government and dissolving the third republic parliament.
“As a nation which quest for peace, tranquility and unity is of supreme interest from four legs to three legs”, should therefore see the continuing celebration of this day as illegitimate, treasonable and above all causing fear and panic in the country.
The celebration of 31st December has no moral basis and its celebration reminds the good people of Ghana and the victims of this day a painful political power robbery and also how people can use illegitimate means of getting hold to political power.
We are calling on the Executive, Legislature, Judiciary, the Media, Christian Council of Ghana, Islamic Council, Inspector General of Police, Civil Society and the General Public to condemn the continuing celebration of this dark day in our political history. The celebration does not help this country in our quest for nation building.
Let us unite as a people and fight poverty and not our political opponent.
Long live Ghana.
Proud to be Ghanaian.
