Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak are to be honoured for their dominance of Ghana’s soccer by Trashy Bags Limited, a plastic waste recycling company in the country.
The awards, which would be in the form of sports and messenger bags, would take place at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra on July 1, after the ‘President’s Cup’ competition between the country’s top teams.
Mr Kwabena Osei Bonsu, Chief Executive Officer of the company who announced this in Accra on Thursday, said the award would cost more than 5,000 Ghana Cedis.
He said the exploits of Kotoko and Hearts who had won more league titles more than the other clubs, also possess the largest following in the country.
Mr Osei Bonsu said the sports bags were made from iced water sachets collected from the various stadia during the Ghana 2008.
He appealed to the followers of the two teams to be ambassadors of preaching the message of environmental cleanliness among the populace, which he observed was lacking in the society.
The company honoured the national senior team, the Black Stars in January this year to coincide with the Ghana CAN 2008 soccer fiesta.
