Top Nigerian Actress Battle For Amaa 2008 Awards

The forth-coming African Movie Academy Awards scheduled for Yenogoa, Bayelsa State on April 26, 2008 promises to be exciting as four of Nigeria’s best actresses have been nominated alongside one Ghanaian. According to the list of nominees made available to the media, the actresses in contention for this year’s big prize as Africa ’s best actresses are Stella Aboderin (Widow), Kate Henshaw-Nuttal (Stronger than Pain/Rivals), Genevieve Nnaji (30 Days/keep My Will), Dakore Egbuson(Caught in the Middle) and Jackie Apea (Princess Tyra). Speaking at the presentation of the nominees, Chairman of Screeners, Shuaibu Hussein revealed that there has been tremendous improvement in the quality of production of the films that were submitted. “Some film makers have truly upped the stakes and there is a genuine attempt to prove that good movies can be made around the continent. Most of the entries were technically sound, the art direction was excellent, there was good use of dramatic element and a good number of them came through as refreshing” he stated.
