Batman Samini, arguably one of the hiplife sensations in the country, was in Wa his homeland to spice up the women’s week celebration of the Wa campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS).
Even though, the students could not pull all the publicised artistes to the region for the week-long programme, the arrival of Samini in Wa town was enough satisfaction for the students and other patrons who made it to the Adonis Cinema for the show.
After watching other local artistes do some dancing and freestyle rap to warm the venue, came the time the audience had been waiting for. At exactly 12 midnight when the Dagarti- born musician was ushered into the hall with the music of Black Eyed Peas titled “Where is the love”, many people especially the ladies could not contain the excitement as the auditorium exploded with defeaning cheers.
Dressed in his native blue Batakari (fugu) with a headgear to match, Samini set the ball rolling with an acapella of his rap in Ofori Amponsah’s “Odwo” and then followed it up with “Samini”.
Then came “Gyae hye” when he veered into singing some of the repertoire on his old album. Here the crowd could not control their joy as they either sang along with their idol or moved towards the dais to take pictures of Samini as he performed.
Who said Samini’s “Linda” was gone and gone for good? Guess what, that was the song which excited the most. The whole atmosphere was charged everyone was kept on his or her feet amidst singing and dancing and here the few security men around had some work to do because most of the people wanted to move onto the stage and dance with Samini.
