Black Queens coach, Mumuni Gamel has left Accra with an 18-member playing squad for Ghana’s final 2008 Olympic Games qualifier against Nigeria.
Ghana will play Nigeria on Saturday in the battle for the sole place as the journey towards Beijing winds down this weekend for the women’s game.
After guiding Ghana to reach the finals of the African Women Championship, Gamel will be on hand to attempt to seal a place at the Beijing Games as the Black Queens remain in the driving seat ahead of favourites, Nigeria.
Ghana needs a draw against the Super Falcons to clinch an automatic and a historic qualification to the Beijing Games.
Mumuni Gamel expects a difficult game against the Nigerians but is ready for Saturday’s task as he braces up for the Nigerian job.
“We have run them close for many years so we will go to Abuja on Saturday determined to get what we want. We want to make history because the girls know that Ghana always qualifies for the African championships but beating Nigeria is the one barrier we have been unable to break down,” Gamel said.
The Black Queens hold a hundred percent record in the qualifying campaign after defeating Nigeria at home and recording back-to-back wins over South Africa.
The runners up of the three-team group will still have a chance of making it to Beijing when they play Brazil in a play-off for a place in the finals of the 2008 Olympics.
