PARMALET Purejoy Stars’ resolution to maintain their leadership position in the Greater Accra Zone One second division league was temporarily jolted by stubborn Interport FC over the weekend.
The determined Interport lads battled the Prampram contingent to a pulsating 0-0 game, a result that dropped the home team from the apex of the log – surrending it to Ebony FC of Tema.
On an afternoon that Purejoy Stars struggled with goal scoring, squandering a catalogue of dog-cheap opportunities, Ebony managed to find a way around Guan Stars of Sakumono, beating them 1-0 to climb to the top with 27 points – one more than Purejoy.
Players of the star-stuffed Purejoy Stars after the game, crashed onto the floor, ruing their chances and cursing themselves for failing to give club owner Isaac Tetteh (T.T. Brothers) the birthday present they promised him.
Mr Tetteh celebrated his 41st birthday on June 22.
However, head coach of Purejoy Stars, Sam Quaye, says there is no cause for alarm, believing the club will make amends in the next game against Tema Young Hasaacas on Sunday.
'We play some fantastic football from defence to midfield but pumping home the goals seem to be giving us problems,' he stressed, promising to work hard in that department.
