Ghana’s female Under-20 side, the Black Princesses, maintained a steady progress in their bid to qualify for their maiden FIFA World Championships with an impressive 4-1 away win over Botswana last Friday.
Playing in the first leg of their second round qualifier, the Princesses drew on the experience of some players who also command regular places in the senior side, the Black Queens — Anita Amankwah, Daina Ankomah and Portia Boakye — to record their emphatic win.
Ankomah got a brace after scoring the opening and third goals, while Amankwah and Portia Boakye scored the second and fourth goals.
The Princesses will host the second leg in a fortnight. And an aggregate win over the two legs will push the Princesses into the final stages of the African qualifiers.
Africa has two slots at the World Cup to be hosted by Chile which comes up between December 30, 2008 to January 17, 2009.
