Ghana would be seeking to make their successive appearance at the World Cup finals after earning one of the places to represent Africa in 2006.
An outstanding performance on their debut, Ghana managed a round of 16 place, Africa’s best team during the last World Cup and that experience is pushing members of the Black Stars to reach the finals in 2010.
As Ghana prepares for the opening 2010 World Cup/African Nations Cup qualifier on Sunday against Libya, John Paintsil, one of the key performers at the last World Cup has told KickOffGhana that he wants to relive the Germany experience again.
“It is an experience that changed the lives of many of us so naturally we want to do it all over again. It will be painful to have to watch it again on TV after being an integral part of it the last time round,” the Black Stars full back said.
And before reaching another dream World Cup, Ghana would hope to get off to a good start in Kumasi, the venue for Sunday’s opening qualifier.
The team has enjoyed a wonderful support since arriving on Tuesday and Paintsil says the presence of so many people leaves him in no doubt about what they expect on Sunday.
“We are aware how much everyone wants us to win and as players we want to win too.
“A good start will be important in setting us of all. If we get maximum points in our first four games, we would have sent out the clearest signal yet about our intentions to the rest of the continent.”
