I had a call last week at Nana Akufo Addo’s ‘party’ when an artiste from a reliable source informed me that my good friend, Okyeame Quophi had quit his job. I was dump-founded so I swiftly tried to reach him on his phone but to no avail. Within a matter of minutes he was at the meeting and my first question to him was “Wo nko Adwuma” in the local dialect (aren’t you going to work)? His reply was simple, Magyae! (I have stopped). He then added that I shouldn’t write anything about it but when I told him the information is already in the public domain, he only shook his head.
According to my source, Quophi’s departure has to do with the ‘Ahinta Asem,’ one of the most listened to programme, a segment on the Rush Hour was taken off and all effort to reinstate it proved futile hence his decision to quit. My source also revealed that due to the popularity of ‘Rush hour’ and the ‘Ahinta Asem’` segment “somebody” thought the two personality were carving a niche for themselves so management decided to reschedule the whole programme, a decision which didn’t go down well with Quophi. When he resisted, they decided to take one hour out of his time and that eventually led to his quitting.
When I reached Oheneba on his phone, he also confirmed the resignation and added that he is also going with the man who decided to allocate some of his airtime for his segment. I have been told also that because of persistent calls to the station by their numerous listeners, Oheneba was called back to the do his segment which he declined. Meanwhile, one of the finest presenters of our time, Kwesi Anim-Agyei has also called it quits at Joy FM
