GHANA’S campaign in the forthcoming Olympic Games in Beijing, China, continue to enjoy some boost from a number of companies.
Coca Cola Ghana Limited, the world’s biggest soft drink outfit, have presented an inspiring $35,000 to the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) to support the nation’s contingent to the games.
As part of the sponsorship package, the company will also take care of refreshment for all the respective events.
A medley of impressive donations also flowed from Unique Star Foods who pumped home $25,000, while Africa’s largest bank, Stanbic Bank, doled out (GH¢15,000).
Other sponsors are Japan Motors (GH¢5,000) plus a motor bike to assist in the operations of GOC; Goil Ghana Limited (GH¢5,000) with the State Insurance Company (SIC) presenting (GH¢ 7,000).
Auto Plaza Company were also not left out of the picture, dishing out a widow’s mite of GH¢1,000 and an undisclosed number of gifts to be delivered to the GOC in due course.
In an interview with the Times Sports in Accra yesterday, first vice president of the GOC, Mr Frank Appiah, said Ghana was ‘fully loaded for bear’ to grab some medals from the games, calling on other corporate bodies to join the crusade.
He disclosed Puma’s readiness to kit the entire contingent including Ghana’s Paralympic team during their ceremonial periods, training and competition.
Mr Appiah expressed GOC’s profound gratitude to all who have donated so far towards the quadrennial games.
Ghana will be represented by 12 athletes and eight boxers – in the August 8 – 24 world’s biggest sporting festival.
