THE INSTITUTE of Business Management and Journalism (IBM&J), the only accredited journalism institution in the northern sector of the country will soon get a campus radio station, authorities of the school have announced.
Work on the radio station which would serve practical purposes for the students are at advanced stages and expected to be completed in two months’ time.
The GH¢10,000 radio station is aimed primarily to offer the students in-depth knowledge about radio so as to avoid a situation where students would find themselves wanting when they enter the radio industry after completing their two-year courses.
Mr. P.F. Owusu, Director of IBM&J who made this known during the 25th matriculation ceremony of the school, pledged the authority’s readiness to equip the school with all the necessary facilities to ensure effective teaching.
“The school is in the process of upgrading its existing facilities to make it become conducive for learning and make it rub shoulders equally with any journalism institution in the country”.
In all 91 students, including females who would be offering Marketing, Journalism and Secretariat courses were admitted to take part in the two-year course.
The school, established 19 years ago, now has a student population of 620.
Mr. Owusu deplored the inability of many students to get admission to tertiary institutions due to inadequate infrastructure and facilities, and called on the government to assist the private institutions so they would continue to absorb such students.
