Defending League Champions Accra Hearts of Oak yesterday scored their highest number of goals in the 2007/08 Onetouch premiership even though they were not convincing.
The Phobians run away with a 3-0 victory, their fourth win in the first round, sending signals that the team was back to its winning ways.
Tireless Ekow Ghansah who was running on the field all day opened the floodgates for Hearts in the 16th minute.
Young Edmund Adjaglo followed with the second goal in the 47th minute from a goal mouth melee and an own goal from Gershon Akuffo completed the rout for Hearts.
By far, Hearts were the better side in the first half dictating the pace with young Tawrick Jibril, Michael Asante and Kofi Abanga controlling affairs from midfield.
Lateral defenders Solomon Amoasi and Eric Nyarko also effectively supported the midfield and attack.
But what changed the tide in the second half in favour of the Wa-based team was the urgency they showed.
Good substitutions on the part of former Black Stars captain, Emmanuel Quarshie triggered the impressive play but the team lacked bite upfront.
On the other hand, Hearts’ substitutes Kwabena Boafo, Ohene Addo and Techie Menson who came in the second half, failed to glitter.
Substitute Emmanuel Osei was a mouthful for the Hearts defence but Dan Coleman who eventually got injured in the 65th minute and was replaced by Ohene Addo, was a tower in the Hearts defence.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Hearts, Harry Zakkour has confirmed to DAILY GUIDE SPORTS that the team has concluded the signing of Charles Taylor and Ishmael Addo, former players, for the second round of the league.
The purchasing of the former players could be seen as a good omen for the team as they bring individual creativity, antics and impressive goal scoring abilities, as they used to lead members of the 2000 Hearts of Oak squad that conquered Africa, winning the Champions League and the Super Cup.
The Champion Chairman, as Zakkour is affectionately called, also hinted that Hearts were on the verge of securing the services of four competent and experienced midfielders and attackers to augment the team.
