Atlantis Radio used to be one of the most listened-to radio stations in Accra but it seems the story has changed. There was a time last year when the station followed you wherever you go in Accra, whether you found yourself in a taxi or trotro.
Atlantis Radio was the only alternative for those fed up with a radio scene heavy with politics and pointless talk. What happened to the magic of Atlantis Radio?
Showghana.com has picked up information that one factor that took out the gilt off the gingerbread is when the morning trio of Rudy, Eddy and Jackie disintegrated. Atlantis Radio at the time began an enviable trend that many expected would have changed the face of morning radio in Ghana.
The ‘dream team’ added more than music and talk to the morning teacup. They gave listeners the tension-free mornings they were looking for. Accra was embracing a magic that could change its thinking.
Unfortunately, it turned out to be a very short dream. The dreamers woke up too early. Or rather, the morning alarm clock went off hours early and truncated the dream of dreams for listeners.
The Atlantis Radio of today has lost something that’s hard to put a finger on. It’s just not what it used to be. The trotro and taxi drivers care no more about the stress-free slogan and would rather tune in to hot Reggae music on a hot afternoon than listen to Atlantis Radio.
Kwame Fakye’s great voice and music helps the station a great deal in the evenings but there is still something missing. It seems Atlantis Radio gathered great momentum with listenership at a point and simply lost it without realizing.
