After a two-day knockout and an all play all national championship at the D.G Hathiramani Sports Hall, at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra, the Ghana Table Tennis Association has ranked its National Senior Players (Men and Women).
The exercise, which was the second in a series, was part of the local preparations ahead of international competition.
The following make up the top eight male players in order of ranking;
Derek Abrefa (Ghana Immigration Service), Christian Aboagye (Ghana Police Service), Ernest Quarcoo (Greater Accra Region), Eric Addo (CEPS), Bernard Joe Sam (CEPS), Mohammed Ali Jnr (Agona Swedru, Central Region) Emmanuel Commey (Ghana Immigration Service) and Lamptey Mills (Ghana Police Service).
Conspicuously missing in the current men ranking are some senior players like; Eric Agyeman of the Police Buffalo Unit, Solomon Akonnor of CEPS, Asafo Adjei of the Ghana Air force as well as Essel Kobina also of the Ghana Air force, who emerged 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th respectively in the previous ranking.
In the ladies category, Bernice Borquaye (Ghana Armed Forces), Lynda Annor (Ghana Immigration Service), Akosua Ketu (Agona Swedru – Central Region), Eva Ampah (Koforidua – Eastern Region), Abigail Tetteh (Ghana Immigration Service), Efia Oforiwah Owusu– Agyei (CEPS), Dorothy Oboubi (A.M.E Zion Senior High School, Winneba – Central Region), Comfort Adjoa Ampah (A.M.E Zion Senior High School, Winneba – Central Region), make up the top eight players.
In the women division, Doreen Nettey of Immigration Service and Francisca Amankrah also of the Ghana National Fire Service have all lost their previous ranking positions of 4th and 5th respectively.
In a release, signed by the Secretary General of the GTTA, Kwame Amponfi Jnr., it stated “It is the hope of the Association that players will continue to train hard to sustain the current healthy competition which is emerging in the on-going ranking exercise.”
“GTTA is also grateful to Hon. Prince Oduro Mensah, Chief Executive of National Sports Council for his singular support to the promotion and development of Table Tennis in Ghana,” the release added.
The ranking exercise was sponsored by Squadron Leader Ebo Bartels – Chairman of GTTA.
