The world football body , Fifa has named Ghana as standby hosts for the next U-17 World Cup because of the concerns over Nigeria’s unsatisfactory preparations for the event next year.
FIFA is currently unhappy about the substandard facilities presented by Nigeria for the event which commences in October 24 next year.
In a report presented by a Fifa inspection team, led by vice president Jack Warner, most of the facilities including , stadiums, accommodation, transport and ticketing plans for the tournament were unsatisfactory.
After touring the five of the nine cities proposed to host the matches, only Abuja got the nod with Lagos and Warri scoring low grades. As a result, Ghana, have been put forward as standby.
That is because Ghana already have the world-class facilities in place because of the country’s hosting of Africa’s showpiece football tournament.
This will ensure that Africa will retain its rights of hosting the tournament if Nigeria fails to live up to expectation in future Fifa inspection visits.
Sources close to the Government of Ghana has however declines knowledge about these arrangements.
