According to reports making waves in Spain, FC Barcelona are set to swap their trusted midfielder Xavi for Chelsea’s prolific Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien.
Even though Essien is also on the hit list of Barca’s fiercest rivals Real Madrid, the Ghanaian midfielder of the Blues may not hesitate to join the Nou Camp if the pricing money is right.
The Spanish Sports Daily was the first to claim that the Blaugrana are looking for a host of player trades this summer, rather than spending big or taking in hefty transfer fees.
Thus the Camp Nou are purportedly willing to offer Samuel Eto’o to Inter Milan in return for Ibrahimovic, and Puyol to Arsenal in return for Fabregas.
According to the reports, Barca’s plan proposal would mean players from different clubs would not have to play in the same position-for example a midfielder for a defender, and so on.
The Catalonian club are also keen on a compensation package for whoever they do business with rather than pay mega bucks in transfer fees.
They would seek cash-plus-player deals wherever possible if the two involved parties differed in valuations.
This would presumably be the case with Puyol, who would be a “cash plus player” swap for the highly sought-after Cesc.
Their plan would also mean that players could swap clubs only after one season rather than be tied to a lengthy contract.
The Spanish club, perhaps, have had enough of dealing with agents as it seems as if they are trying to make it easier for players to move around.
