Barclays’ Mathias Dorfe returned a 40 stable ford points to reign supreme in the Barclays Ghana Invitational golf tournament, at the Achimota Golf Club last Saturday.
However, as custom demands, Dorfe renounced his prize to Charles Ofori who followed him closely with a 39 stable ford points in the well organized 18-hole competition.
Nine-year-old Daniel List, finished second with 38 stable ford points, while Achimota’s Albert Brock followed in that order with 36points. For their efforts, they took home sparkling trophies donated by organizers of the keenly contested competition.
In the ladies event, visiting Vivian Avornyo from Cote d’Ivoire, who won the nearest to the pin prize, finished first with 40points, while Brookman Amissah picked her second trophy in seven days by placing second. It was Joy Arkutu who grabbed the third spot with 34 points.
The pros event saw John Mawuli grossing 139 to emerge tops with two Achimotans, Stephen Klah, 142 gross and John Dormon 145 gross finished second and third respectively.
Luck eluded Achimota’s competition secretary, Mike Maguire when he came close to winning the men’s nearest to the pin prize, and thus lost the $57,500 Jeep at stake.
Dr Charles Mensah, the board chairman of Barclays, commended the management of Barclays, especially the Managing Director, Margaret Mwanakatwe for her exceptional managerial role which has catapulted the Bank from 28 branches to an enviable 146 branches.
The President of the Ghana Golf Association (GGA), Professor George Ntsiful commended Barclays for putting the program together and asked for a minute’s silence for the two Ivorian golfers who died in a motor accident en route to the Otumfuo golf championship.
