GHANA’S SOLE Africa Champions League campaigners, Ashanti Gold FC are hopeful of turning the tide around to qualify for the group stages of the competition at the expense of JSK of Algeria.
With a 3-0 advantage, JSK treks to Obuasi to lock horns with Ashanti Gold at the Len Clay Stadium in a second leg tie tomorrow.
To some connoisseurs of the game, the end of the road has come for the miners with regard to this year’s Africa Champions League.
But Ashanti Gold, runners up in the 1997 edition of the competition, are sure of making it to at least the lucrative group stages of the competition.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Kudjoe Fianu, CEO of Ashanti Gold said against all odds, the miners would maul JSK to advance in the competition.
Though he admitted that the club had fared abysmally in their previous clashes with North African sides, Mr. Fianu boldly stated that tomorrow would be a different story, promising to break the North African jinx.
“FAR of Morocco eliminated us at the last preliminary stage of the tournament last year. Also do not forget that Raja Casablanca of Morocco painfully snatched the 1997 Africa Champions League trophy from our hands, via penalty shoot outs in the grande finale.
“Ashanti Gold has suffered for a long time at the hands of these North African clubs and we have vowed to put up a splendid performance on Sunday to break the jinx this time around”.
The Ashanti Gold CEO noted that he was not the least perturbed or scared by the 3-0 deficit, insisting, “We can score more goals on home soil to go past JSK and even go ahead to win the ultimate”.
He called on the teeming fans of the club to throng the stadium in their numbers to cheer the team to victory.
