UN Representative Urges Ghanaians To Be Proactive Website
Mr. Daouda Toure, United Nations Resident Representative, on Tuesday called for a more active participation by all and sundry in order to drive home the development agenda of the country. He said research by a team of experts showed that there was the need for Ghanaians to be committed to activities aimed at promoting their well-being and the country as a whole adding, “As a country, we need to be proactive and resourceful in the search for development, women empowerment and socio-economic advancement”. Mr. Toure said this when he paid a visit to Mrs. Oboshie Sai-Cofie, Minister of Information and National Orientation to present a copy of the 2007 report on Ghana’s ‘Human Development’. He called for community mobilisation towards a more inclusive society where every one had a say in the development agenda. Mr. Toure said the media had a role to play to ensure that the message of all inclusiveness, especially in this electioneering year got down with the people. Mrs. Sai-Cofie said the Ministry was working hard on its policies to ensure that everybody got involved in the affairs of the state. She promised the Ministry support and effective collaboration to ensure that the report was translated and dramatised in the local languages to ensure its successful implementation. The report is developed in six main chapters: a framework for social exclusion, status of Human Development and Social Exclusion, Social Structure, Systems and Practices, Social Exclusion; the Economic, Political and Legal Dimension and Promoting an Inclusive Society.
