Provide Accommodation For Police-Barte Website
Mr. Kwamena Bartels, the Interior Minister, has appealed to district assemblies to assist the Police Service with the provision of residential and office accommodation. That he said would enable the Service to post more police personnel to cover many parts of the country. The Minister was responding to a question from Mr. Stephen Balado-Manu, (NPP, MP for Ahafo Ano North) on why the Mpasaaso 11 Police Station in the Ahafo Ano North constituency in the Ashanti Region currently had only one police officer at post. Mr Balado-Manu informed the Minister that the district assembly had put up facilities to house more officers. The Minister then assured the member that he would verify the information and ensure that more officers were sent to Mpasaaso 11 police station to beef up security. Mr. Abuga Pele, (NDC MP for Chiana-Paga) also questioned the Ministry on why the Ministry was not factoring the provision of residential and office accommodation into the recruitment of more officers. Responding, Mr. Bartels said there was a huge demand for police presence in every part of the country which created the situation where there were more police personnel than the facilities could sustain. In response to another question on whether the Ministry would consider fencing the James Town district police station, the Minister said funds were not immediately available.
